The World of Velgarth
Well...as you've probably guessed, I'm new here xD. I'm currently into Velgarth rp-ing, and after some book-browsing, it seems obvious that it's REALLY hard to find some infor about tervardi. Can anybody here somehow help me? I need especially info of how they look. Refferance pictures would be loved, but even some text if you manage to find it xDDD|
From Owlsight, p. 111: "Darian tried to stare without staring; he could not tell if the tervardi was male or female, but if coloration followed the same pattern as in birds, and if the feathers werent painted as some of the gryphons' were, then it was probably male. Its head, covered with scarlet-and-black feathers and a hint of crest, had a definite beak rather than lips. The arms were feathered as well-wings, but nonfunctional ones, too abbreviated to be of any use even in gliding. There was a broad, feathered tail, and it wore a type of wrapped garment that left the tail free."
The female is described as "drably plumaged in black and red-brown" (but only drab in comparison to the male, on her own she would have been "quite striking", and with "enormous eyes, so dark a brwon as to seem black." She has "a four-taloned hand-three long claws and one short and opposed, exactly like a thumb." Her name is Rrrilia.
The pair shows up at Nightwind and Snowfire's wedding to sing-apparently they travel among the vales, and its very rare (for humans) to get to hear a flock sing together (although apparently they will do, at larger vales).
okay, you just saved my life xD! thanks^^
and what do you think, are their bodies fully-feathered? or only partially, like for example the face without them? do they have something like hair on the head? and how large are they compared to people?
if I remember correctly, that was the only one longer tervardi description in all the series, so I won't be asking for quotes that aren't there xDDD...just your personal opinion^^
I think they're fully feathered. There's a comment on the same pages about feathers around the beak, so it sounds like they're kind of human-shaped birds. They're probably about human-sized, although I picture them a little smaller, like overdramatized said, they've got a delicate build.
I don't have any of the books with me right now, but I remember from the descriptions in the Winds series that their build was very slight and fragile; "bird-boned."
thanks^^. *adds that to the description text file xD*
Something interesting I found in The Valdemar Companion: They were once enslaved because of their incredible singing talent. I had forgotten that.
Also, I always imagined them fully-feathered.
oh, I remember that from the Owls now :3! thanks for the reminder^^

has ANYONE ever attempted a Tervardi cosplay before??? I was wondering about ANY reference pictures, or opinions, or if someone has that would help alot ^^; I found this through the poster's request for help with the descriptions of them, and am posting anonymously, because i am lazy and don't remember my LJ account, or what e-mail i used for it so don't feel like looking it up right now o.o;;
ANY help would be appreciated, i'll look back here if there's ever any more replies, since i actually am thinking of trying it ^^; But i can't without a much clearer idea of what i would be doing. Pictures? Pondering? Anything? ^.^; Thanks if you can help! ~Rath Illucer
